Position Title: HFA Worker

Reports To: Membership Services Manager

Pay Grid: $17/hour

Department: Health, Fitness, and Aquatics

Hours: 3-37 hours/week

What qualifications are we looking for?

The successful candidate will have the following:

Education/Certifications/Credentials/Professional Registration

• Standard First Aid, CPR-Level C

• Evidence of a clear Police Information Check (with Vulnerable Sector Search if applicable), within the last six months

• YMCA Shift Lead training is an asset or willingness to obtain it

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficient computer skills, MS Office suite an asset

• Strong sales and customer service experience

• Ability to act professionally in all situations, representing the YMCA according to it’s core values

• Able to deal with difficult situations and complaints with confidence

• Excellent verbal and written communication, organization and time management skills

What does this role look like at the YMCA of Southeastern Alberta?

Reporting to the Membership Services Supervisor, the HFA Worker is responsible for providing exceptional customer service to all people that access the YMCA facility while demonstrating the YMCA’s core values. This role will provide support to every department within the HFA facility with the main duties being in the Membership department.

The responsibilities and duties of this role will include but is not limited to:

Customer Service

• Be committed to exceptional customer services and member engagement

• Have positive interactions with members throughout the building, never just walk past a person

• Identify and create opportunities to enhance each and every person’s YMCA experience

• Knowledgeable about all YMCA programs and services organization wide

• Shift leads are expected to maintain a high profile in the facility to monitor delivery or service and programs in all areas, to respond to and prevent service issues and complaints, to circulate throughout the facility on a consistent basis, to aid in the delivery of front-line service objectives (tours)

Teamwork

• Work effectively within the HFA team, contributing to its overall success by:

• Promoting the YMCA’s annual Y Connect Campaign

• Promoting and/or attending YMCA events

• Contributing to a positive and healthy workplace culture

• Other duties to assist the team, as assigned

• Aid in the training of all new staff and volunteers within the HFA department

• Cover any HFA shift that becomes available

• Attend any HFA staff meetings, YMCA organization wide staff meetings or training

• Share responsibility with keeping supplies within the HFA buildings stocked and facility clean

• Help develop and maintain smooth cooperative working relations with all staff and volunteers

Standards that Shine

• Achieve all quality standards and targets established under YMCA best practices and the YMCA’s Standards that Shine

• General cleaning as required around the facility, including high touch areas, change rooms, windows, floors, and garbage’s

• General cleaning of any YMCA equipment

• Ensuring all staff are aware of Standards that Shine, and work with them to create a culture of excellence in adherence to guidelines and expectations outlined by the Standards that Shine

Interpersonal/Communication Skills

• Communicate effectively with coworkers, supervisors, managers, and the senior leadership team

• Ensure workplace conflicts are resolved quickly, following YMCA policies and procedures.

• Communicate a large quantity of information on the phone, through email, or in person, concisely, correctly and professionally

Quality of Work

• Ensure the safety and security of the building, staff, volunteers, members and visitors

• Conduct building safety checks to ensure the building is clean, safe, and secure and free of clutter, including change rooms every 2 hours

• Responsible for Risk Management – respond to and/or coordinate emergency procedures when an incident or accident occurs

• Complete all membership/program/janitorial related duties with accuracy

• Accurately complete all Avocado duties

• Accurately complete all transactions, payments, cash-outs and balancing within Avocado, tills, POS systems

• Maintain and complete membership paperwork, spreadsheets, emails and other administrative work as needed

• Provide a safe and welcoming environment for all individuals accessing the YMCA facilities

• Be able to work days, evenings and weekends

• Support and cover for Youth Program Workers in implementing and facilitating child/youth programs as outlined and making sure they meet established goals and targets when needed

• Collecting statistics as required

Compliance with Legislation and YMCA Policies and Procedure

• Adherence to the following at all times:

• YMCA Child Protection and Operational Policies and Procedures

• Public health and safety regulations

• Occupational Health and Safety

• Can not leave the YMCA facility without designating an alternate Shift Lead

• Assume full control of the building in the event of an emergency requiring the evacuation of the facility

Work Environment and Physical Demands

• Work in a loud, noisy environment

• May be going from standing to seated positions, from standing to kneeling positions, from kneeling to standing positions, from seated to standing positions for most of the working day

• There will be walking throughout the day

• Walking up and down stairs

• May lift or move items up to 75lbs, including children

• Will work with cleaning chemicals

• May work on a ladder

• Working on a computer screen, computer keyboard and mouse

• May be exposed to children or adults who may not be vaccinated

• May be exposed to verbal/physical abuse from external and internal clients
