Yoga Classes

There are many different styles of yoga, each with their own benefits. Whether you are new to yoga and looking for a supportive environment to begin your journey, or an advanced yogi looking for a new challenge, the Y has a class to support you and your goals. Practitioners will increase their strength and flexibility, while also calming their minds and reducing stress.

What We Offer

Gentle Yoga

Downtown YMCA | Ages 13+

Gentle Yoga is performed at a slower pace, with less intense positions and a strong emphasis on stretching, seated, and low impact positions. There is additional time included in class for meditation, breath work, and relaxation. Modifications are available for individuals of all fitness levels to benefit from this restorative class.

Yinspiration Yoga

Downtown YMCA & South Ridge YMCA | Ages 13+

A great balance to other more demanding forms of yoga, practitioners will utilize long holds and purposeful breath to explore safe, gentle ways for the body (and mind) to release on a deeper level. This yin inspired class mainly targets the hips, shoulders and spine, leading your mind and entire body to experience a deep release of stress and old emotions. This practice can will help you identify links between strong holds on the matt and throughout the rest of your life. Individuals of all fitness levels can benefit from this class.

Flex Yoga

Downtown YMCA | Ages 13+

Flex yoga is an amazing practice for the evening, when you want something light, or when you're honouring the moon. With the yin (cool) energy as our focus we'll tap into the parasympathetic nervous system (rest and digestion) using Chandrasana (Moon) Namaskaras as a connector.  Gradually we'll open the front body and hips in postures that are low to the ground. The flow of the class will wind you down for your evening routine.

Iyengar Yoga

Downtown YMCA | Ages 13+

Ease into yoga poses with the help of props and aids in order to perform different postures. This class is ideal for anyone who is interested in yoga but has concerns about injury or strain. Our knowledgeable instructor will guide you through achieving the different postures in a way that is ideal for you and your body.

Restorative / Yoga Nidra

Downtown YMCA & South Ridge YMCA | Ages 13+

Yoga Nidra is the practice of Yogic Sleep that aids us in healing our inner spirit, mind , body connection.  Trauma informed means being able to be gently guided into discovering with safety. A practice of Calming the Mind, settling down the central nervous systems flight fight or freeze fawn response. We open the body with gently held poses using tools that support us such as  blocks, props, bolsters, blankets, eye masks , etc.
Prepare to come in comfortable relaxed clothing  that can help aid the journey of relax to the body, reducing stress in order to Prepare for a deep healing cycle as we head into the evening of our day.

YogaFit

YogaFit is designed for practitioners of all levels! Discover something new each week as you pair strong, dynamic muscle contractions with deep breathing to activate and relax your entire body. Challenge yourself with a variety of balance poses and add in props to aid and enhance your workout. Leave each class feeling strong, leaner, and centered with reduced stress.

Primary yoga

Downtown YMCA | Ages 13+

Primary Yoga is the foundational postures for the Ashtanga lineage, perfect for all levels of yoga. It's challenging enough for seasoned yogis yet accessible for beginners.

Restorative yoga
