United Way Funds YMCA Licensed Day Camps (2022)

The YMCA of Medicine Hat has been awarded $30,000 courtesy of the United Way’s Steve Murphy Foundation to directly offset the cost of licensed summer day camps. As a result of this funding, families will save 33% on registration fees, paying only $150 per week for YMCA Community Camps. With this funding, the YMCA is offering the most affordable Day Camp option within the city this summer.

Registration for these licensed programs is now open and can be accessed through the YMCA’s online member portal. Programs operate Monday to Friday (excluding statutory holidays) from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm throughout the school summer break.

In addition to summer programs, this funding will also offset the costs of the upcoming PD Day Camp on May 20th, as well as PD Day Camps in the new school year on Sept 23rd Oct 7th and Nov 7th – 10th reducing the costs of these camps to $40/day.

This year’s dates and themes are as follows:

July 4-8: Summer Olympics
July 11-15: Christmas in July
July 18-22: Artrageous
July 25-29: Nature Agents
Aug 2-5: Y Sci (Y Science)
Aug 8-12: Emergency Services
Aug 15-19: Y Take Flight

Eligible families can access Government of Alberta Child Care Subsidy to further offset their costs and the YMCA also offers Strong Kids financial assistance for families who face additional financial barriers.

“Part of supporting healthy communities is ensuring that families have a safe, affordable place to send their children during the day,” says Sharon Hayward, CEO, YMCA of Medicine Hat, “Thanks to this funding from the United Way, parents can access high quality child care, administered by trained professionals, that supports the social, mental, and physical development of their children at an affordable price point. When children are safe, and families are working, we all win. We are extremely grateful to the United Way for this support.”
