Position Title: Career & Employment Advisor – Medicine Hat
Reports To: Career & Employment Manager
Pay Grid: Level 2 - $22-$25/hour
Department: Employment Center
Hours: Full-Time (40hrs/week)

What qualifications are we looking for?

The successful candidate will have the following:
Education/Certifications/Credentials/Professional Registration
• University Degree or Diploma in Human Services/ HR/Social Sciences and/or Business
• Evidence of a clear Police Information Check (with Vulnerable Sector Search if applicable), within the last six months
• Must have class 07 automobile insurance coverage business use (or pleasure with occasional business use) and a minimum of $2,000,000 in liability coverage
Knowledge & Skills
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
• Knowledge of employment, education, and training strategies, local labour market information and community resources
• Exceptional customer service attitude and skills
• Organizational and time management skills
• Strong leadership and communication skills
What does this role look like at the YMCA of Southeastern Alberta?
Reporting to the Director of Employment Services, the Career and Employment Advisor will assist individuals in providing comprehensive and individualized services that enable job seekers to acquire workplace and occupational skills allowing them to re-enter the workforce as quickly as possible.
The responsibilities and duties of this role will include but is not limited to:
• Assist participants with resume development, job search strategies, interview skills, training opportunities, career planning, employability skills and labour market information
• Initiate, develop and maintain employer contacts by marketing our programs
• Negotiate job placements and work experience opportunities for clients with employers
• Provide ongoing coaching on a one-on-one basis for individuals connecting to the workforce
• Conduct a thorough assessment to help clients identify their interests, skills, and abilities, and relate them to the workforce
• Facilitate life management and employability workshops
• From time to time, may need to lift boxes of files weighing up to 20 lbs
