Position Title: Group Fitness Instructor

Reports To: Fitness Manager

Pay Grid: Level 1 - $17.50/hr

Department: Health, Fitness & Aquatics

Hours: Full time - 40hrs/week

What qualifications are we looking for?

The successful candidate will have the following:

Education/Certifications/Credentials/Professional Registration

• Additional certification through third party group fitness programs is an asset. These programs include, but are not limited to, the following: TRX, Zumba, MOSSA, Les Mills, etc.

• Personal Training certification is an asset. This includes, but is not limited to, CanFit Pro, CSEP, NASM, AFLCA, etc.

• Bachelor of Physical Education, Kinesiology or related degree preferred

• Standard First Aid, CPR-Level C

• Evidence of a clear Police Information Check (with Vulnerable Sector Search if applicable), within the last six months

• Must have a valid driver’s license with a class 07 automobile insurance coverage business use (or pleasure with occasional business use) and a minimum of $2,000,000 in liability coverage

Knowledge & Skills

• Well-developed interpersonal, and relationship building skills; ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with members, staff and volunteers

• Knowledge of physical fitness normally acquired through completion of courses in physical education or a related field and/or previous experience

• Previous experience in developing individual fitness programs and coaching individuals to achieve results

• Ability to act professionally in all situations, representing the YMCA according to its core values

• Ability to instruct various group fitness classes is an asset

• Excellent communication, organization, and time management skills

• Flexibility regarding schedule, including days, evenings and weekends

• Ability to deliver quality fitness programming at off-site lcoations

What does this role look like at the YMCA of Southeastern Alberta?

Reporting to the Fitness Manager the Group Fitness Instructor is responsible for providing exceptional customer service while teaching a variety of fitness classes to all people or persons that access the YMCA facility while demonstrating all YMCA values and helping members to achieve their personal health and fitness goals.

The responsibilities and duties of this role will include but is not limited to:

• Assists members to achieve their personal health and fitness related goals through education and suggested exercise programs, while building positive relationships

• Coverage for special events as required

• Host scheduled group fitness classes which include, but are not limited to, the following: bootcamp, spin classes, aquafit classes, gold fit classes, and chair fit classes. Additional classes through third party programming where certification is attained (i.e. Zumba, TRX, Mossa, etc.)

• Candidates must be able to work days, evenings and weekends

• May lift or move items up to 50 lbs including children
