What Does Y Parent Provide?

The YMCA Parent Program is offered by the YMCA of Medicine Hat in partnership with the Medicine Hat Public School Division, Alberta Provincial Family Resource Network, Medicine Hat Family Services, Nurture Pregnancy Center, Bridges Parent Education and LEARN. Through a comprehensive approach, the YMCA Parent Program is dedicated to the education, personal growth, and development of young mothers so that they may positively contribute to their family and community.   

Program Eligibility:  

  • Pregnant or parenting moms and dads.

  • 15-30 years of age.  

  • Have a need for continued learning, essential life skills, and cultural capacity.  

  •   Would benefit from the role modeling, peer relationships and community involvement provided by the program.

  • Express a commitment to meet the expectations of the program.  

  • Students are admitted following a referral. 

The Y Parent Program provides young parents with the tools and support they need to be great parents, in addition to helping navigate their education, career and life choices successfully.

Are You Eligible for Y Parent?

  • I am pregnant

  • I am parenting (single or couple)

  • Between the age 15-30

  • I am working towards secondary school completion or academic upgrading to post-secondary school

  • I am willing to engage in parenting, wellness, and life skills programming

Who Can Refer You?

  • Yourself

  • Parent(s)/family member

  • Medical Practitioner

  • Social Worker

  • Child & Family Services

  • School Administration/Counsellor

  • Community Resource Agency
