Ski Swap - Canadian Ski Patrol

The Canadian Ski Patrol - Palliser is hosting their annual Ski Swap on Saturday, Oct 22 at the South Ridge YMCA

Turn your used equipment into cash and get some great bargains on new and used ski and snowboard equipment for the upcoming season.

Ski Swap will be held at South Ridge YMCA (644 Spruce Way SE) in Medicine Hat.

Equipment registration and consignment is Friday October 21st, 2022 from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM.

Registration:

  • FRIDAY from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM.

  • Equipment is subject to inspection.

  • CSP reserves the right to refuse equipment to be registered in the SWAP

  • All equipment registered is subject to a $2.00 per item registration fee

  • Registration fee to be paid at the time of registration

  • A 20% commission will be deducted from the selling price of items sold

  • Consignees receive a Canary coloured copy of their registration form. DON’T LOSE THIS. They need it for pick-up and cheque issuing on Saturday

  • Equipment donations are welcome!

Ski Swap trade show and sale is on Saturday October 22nd, 2022 from 9 AM until 5 PM.

We have 4 retailers coming. Two local stores: Gravity Sports and The Boarding House from Medicine Hat and Alpenland and Borderline from Lethbridge. This year we also welcome Castle Mountain Ski Resort and Elkwater Ski Club to our exhibit!

Sale:

  • Sale SATURDAY from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

  • Prices clearly marked on items.

  • Sticker prices are not negotiable.

  • Prices include all applicable taxes.

  • NO GST is added at check-outs.

  • All sales CASH, CHEQUE or eTransfer.

  • Seller contact information is NOT accessible to buyers.

  • Cheques for sold items and/or unsold equipment pickup after 3:30 PM.

Canadian Ski Patrol Palliser Zone is a registered charity dedicated to promoting ski safety and providing first aid and rescue service to skiers. Proceeds from the Ski Swap stay in the community and go toward the purchase of first aid and rescue equipment as well as the safety and education programs of the Canadian Ski Patrol in Palliser zone.

X Damaged or obsolete equipment.
X Used helmets.
X Clothing (Jackets, Snow pants, etc.).
X Small items (toques, gloves, mitts, goggles).

Equipment Price Mark Downs:

Price reductions should be registered in advance at the time of registration.
Prices can only be changed by authorized SWAP coordinators. DO NOT CHANGE STICKER PRICES ON YOUR OWN.
Prices will NOT be marked down below $50.00.
The SWAP will close at 12:30 PM so volunteers can place the mark down stickers on selected equipment.
Not all items are marked down.
Doors will re-open at 1:00 PM.

Cheques for Items Sold:

Cheques for items sold in the SWAP will be available for pick-up after 3:30 PM.
20% commission will be deducted from the sale total.
Cheques are POST DATED to November 22, 2022 in order to allow SWAP purchase cheques to clear.

Unclaimed Equipment:

Equipment which is not picked up by 5:00 PM will become property of the Canadian Ski Patrol – Palliser Zone.

Equipment Pick-up:

VERY IMPORTANT – Consignees must always have the CANARY copy of their SKI SWAP registration form when checking for their equipment.
Consignees can return to the SKI SWAP after 3:30 PM on Saturday to see if their equipment has sold.
Consignees should check on the sales floor to see if they can locate their equipment.
If the Consignee cannot locate their equipment, they should go to the de-registration desk and ask if the equipment has been sold.
If their equipment has been sold, they will be advised. If not, we will help them locate it.
Consignee’s unsold equipment located on the sales floor should be taken to the de-registration desk to have it identified and recorded as being removed from the SWAP.
The Consignee’s registration form will be marked “picked-up” or sold: depending on the status of your equipment.
ALL UNSOLD EQUIPMENT MUST BE FORMALLY CHECKED-OUT OF THE SWAP

Call-ins:

Consignee’s must come to the SWAP in person to check the status of their equipment. There are no phones available to the SKI SWAP.

Downtown Fitness Facility Main Hallway Closure

UPDATE: The Downtown Branch flooring update is ALMOST complete. The installers need just one more day to complete the job. The main gym hallway will be back open on Saturday morning.

We are excited to announce that our new turf flooring is scheduled for installation Monday, Aug 29 - Thursday, Sept 1. 

The Downtown Fitness Facility will be impacted as follows:

  • The main gym hallway (adjacent to the cardio and gym areas) will be closed Aug 29, 30, 31 and Sept 1. During this time, the main floor weight and cardio areas, courts, and 2nd floor multipurpose rooms will be inaccessible. We encourage members to utilize the Downtown's basement weight room or the South Ridge YMCA during this time.    

  • The Living Fit programming will operate at the South Ridge YMCA on these days.    

  • The hallway adjacent to the change rooms will remain open

Stick on First - Street Hockey Tournament

Sticks on First is an IG Wealth initiative to raise funds for the YMCA of Medicine Hat. This event encourages the principle that makes IG Wealth so successful - teamwork!

This event will be the first-annual, large-scale, 10-team, 4 on 4 Round-Robin tournament in support of the local YMCA!

When: June 24, 2022 from 10am to 4pm

Where: First street in Medicine Hat will be closed from the Library to City Hall to
accommodate 5 rinks.

Teams: Each team will be playing in at least 4 games, and up to 6 games if in the finals. Each game will be 20 minutes
in length, with a 20-minute break in between each game. Each team must have 8 members, with 4 playing at all times, and must also have at least one member of the opposite gender, and one child aged 12-16.
Helmets and protective wear will not be supplied but encouraged to be worn. Team members must supply their own sticks.

YouthWORKS! Program

Want to earn while you learn? Our YouthWORKS program is currently accepting applications for our next intake! The program begins on March 7th 2022. Limited spots available. Please contact the YMCA Employment Centre at 403-529-4733 to apply.

In our program you will learn:

  • Goal setting and decision making

  • Self-esteem and self-awareness

  • Healthy work/home balance

Participants cannot be attending school and must be available to attend the in-class paid training from Monday to Thursday from 8:30am- 4:30pm. YouthWORKS! includes six weeks of paid in-class group training directly followed by six weeks of paid work experience with an employer of interest to you. This is a full-time program that will operate between Monday- Friday, 9am- 3:30pm. There are a total of 16 weeks- 14 weeks in the classroom at Medicine Hat College followed by 2 weeks of unpaid work experience in a trade of interest to you!

In this program, participants will develop skills in:

  • Academic Upgrading- math and science for the trades

  • Trades Labs/Occupational Training

  • Computer Training

  • Employability and Job Readiness Skills

  • Essential Skills

Session 4 Kinder and Youth Program List:

Kinder Art: Ages 3-6. Allow your little artist to develop their creativity and fine motor skills through theme-based classes that include painting, drawing, cutting, and pasting. Classes may also include stories and songs.

Kinder Climb: Ages 3-6. Encourage your preschooler to climb to new heights! An introductory wall climbing class with emphasis on climbing safety and basic techniques.

Kinder Drum: This program will help your little drummer’s mind and body to get fit. This is a fun-filled class using sticks, medicine balls and pool noodles to get us active.

Kinder Fitness: Ages 3-6. Be Strong! Be Mighty! This program is designed to enhance your child’s strength, balance and coordination through fun fitness activities. Children are required to wear running shoes and must be able to use the washroom independently. 

Kinder Music: Ages 3-6. This class will encourage your child to explore music through lively songs, rhythm, and sounds. They will further their exploration through games and literacy to enhance their awareness of their body and the space around them.

 Kinder Soccer: Ages 3-6. Learn footwork, teamwork, and balance skills! Join us for fun soccer activities!

YMCA Story Tellers: Ages 3-6. Join us for storytime and dive into the deep depths of creativity and help us create a story! Classes may also include stories and songs.

Kinder Scientist: Ages 3-6. It’s never too early to open your young mind to the amazing world of science. Promoting science literacy using what we see around us in our everyday lives and the real world.

Kinder & Growing Chefs: Ages 3-12 Has your child outgrown the mud pie cooking phase? Want them to take their cooking skills to the next level? Join us at the YMCA for our KINDER & GROWING CHEF classes! Learn to create a variety of yummy recipes and enjoy them afterwards. All chefs will leave with the recipes they have created so they can treat you to a surprise at home!

Learn the Ropes Level’s 1, 2, 3: Ages 7-13. This introductory course teaches basics such as proper equipment use, safety, and climbing techniques. Climb to new heights.

Climb-On Levels 1, 2, 3: Ages 9-15. Participants will climb different routes in order to challenge themselves and their ability as a climber. You will be more confident as an indoor climber. *Completion of Learn the Ropes Level’s 1, 2, 3 is required* 

Youth Basketball: Ages 6-12. Play hard, play smart, play together! Come and improve your basketball skills with the YMCA. Participate in drills and games in a fun non-competitive environment. *Running shoes and clothing that is comfortable to move in are required.

YMCA Builders: Ages 6-12. An art-based class where youth will focus on sculpting and weaving.

Y Fitness: Ages 6-12. Encouraging youth to get more active! Join us for a variety of different fitness circuits and challenges. *Proper gym attire is required*

Mighty Kids: Ages 6-12. This class will encourage your child to combine physical exercise, mental meditation, and breathing exercises. It uses age-based yoga poses and stretching. * Flexible clothing required*

Karate: Traditional Fudokan Shotokan Karate in a group instructed setting. Karate improves all aspects of one’s physical condition, muscular strength, agility, speed, coordination, and cardiovascular condition. Zorislav Krco has 46 years of experience and holds the rank of 7th Dan. * Belts and Gi’s are at an additional cost. Members: $95.00 Nonmembers: $175.00
