Pay Grid:              $19.00/hr

What qualifications are we looking for?

The successful candidate will have the following:

 

Education/Certifications/Credentials/Professional Registration

  • Standard First Aid, CPR-Level C

  • Evidence of a clear Police Information Check (with Vulnerable Sector Search if applicable), within the last six months 

  • Must have a valid driver’s license with a class 07 automobile insurance coverage business use (or pleasure with occasional business use) and a minimum of $2,000,000 in liability coverage

  • Aquatics Certification (National lifeguard Service (NLS), YMCA Swim Instructor, Water Safety Instructor (WSI), Aquatic Emergency care) an asset

  • National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) an asset

  • Qualifications in Healthy Child Development, Early Childhood Education, and/or Child and Youth Care Counselling an asset

Knowledge & Skills

  •  Proficient computer skills, MS Office Suite an asset

  • Strong leadership and time management skills

  • Ability to act professionally in all situations, representing the YMCA according to its core values

  • Able to deal with difficult situations and complaints with confidence

  • Excellent customer service

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

 

What does this role look like at the YMCA of Southeastern Alberta?

Reporting to the HFA Program Manager the HFA Program Lead is responsible for providing leadership to children and youth through YMCA programming at both the South Ridge and Downtown locations.  This is a key role to help advance member satisfaction and growth in programming.  This position will embrace a program growth strategy that has the YMCA actively recruiting and developing relationships with users and encouraging membership to the YMCA.

 

The responsibilities and duties of this role will include but is not limited to:

 

Customer Service

  • Be committed to exceptional customer service and member engagement

  • Have positive interactions with members throughout the building, never just walk by a member

  • Leads are expected to maintain a high profile in the facility

  • Identify and create opportunities to enhance each and every persons YMCA experience

  • Maintain high service standards and satisfaction rating that are reflected in the achievement of annual membership growth and retention targets

  • Will work with the HFA Program Manager to ensure the highest level of customer service is being delivered by the program/aquatic staff

  • Ensure quarterly staff meetings occur in conjunction with the HFA Program Manager

  • Be available to step in and work or cover the front desk when needed

  • General cleaning as required around the facility

  • Ensuring all staff are aware of Standards that Shine, and work with them to create a culture of excellence in adherence to guidelines and expectations outlined by the Standards that Shine

 

Interpersonal/Communication Skills

  • Communicate effectively with coworkers, supervisors, managers, and the senior leadership team

  • Ensure workplace conflicts are resolved quickly, following YMCA policies and procedures

  • Connecting members with key staff to assist in helping them to become a connected, happy and satisfied user of the YMCA

  • Keeping in constant communication with the HFA Program Manager regarding schedule changes

  • To be available in person (where possible) by phone, text, or email to support staff and if required by the HFA Program Manager

  • To be accountable to the HFA Program Manager with regards to your work schedule

  • Communicate to staff the outcomes of projects, staffing requirements, promotions, staff expectations, communication from the management team and day to day items

 

 

Quality of Work

  • Provide direct leadership to a team of approximately 10-15 staff and volunteers, ensuring staff have the skills and knowledge required to perform their duties in line with YMCA expectations

  • Provide direct support to the HFA Program Manager with all HR functions such as hiring and performance management of employees within the Program/Aquatics department

  • With oversight from the HFA Program Manager schedule the Program/Aquatic staff at both branches. This includes, but is not limited to:

    • scheduling concerns

    • scheduling changes and adjustments

    • daily/weekly/monthly schedules

    • gathering staff availability and time off requests

    • covering staff shortages

  • Ensure staff understand the program goals and strive to achieve them

  • Ensure the safety and security of the aquatics area and youth in programming

  • Complete all program related duties with accuracy in our Avocado system

  • Maintain and complete program paperwork, spreadsheets, emails and other administrative work as needed

  • Ensuring staff are keeping accurate and up to date statistics, reports and program paperwork

  • Assist with projects and special events as needed

  • Candidates must be able to workdays, evenings and weekends as required outside of regular shifts

  • Attend all staff training and YMCA staff meetings

  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned

  • Aquatics Safety Standards

 

 Work Environment and Physical Demands

  • Work in a loud noisy environment

  • May be going from standing to seated positions, from standing to kneeling positions, from kneeling to standing positions, from seated to standing positions for most of the working day.  There will be walking throughout the day

  • Walking up and down stairs

  • May lift or move items up to 50lbs including children

  • Working a computer screen, computer keyboard and mouse

  • May be exposed to children or adults who may not be vaccinated

  • May be exposed to verbal/physical abuse from external and internal clients
