What qualifications are we looking for?

The successful candidate will have the following:
Exceptional customer service skills
Proficient computer skills, MS Office suite an asset
Be organized and resourceful.
Strong leadership and communication skills
Knowledge of physical fitness normally acquired through completion of courses in physical education or a related field and/or previous experience.
Personal Trainer Certification, YMCA/AFLCA Fitness Instructor Certification an asset
Previous experience in developing individual fitness programs and coaching individuals to achieve results.
Ability to instruct various group fitness classes an asset.
Well-developed interpersonal, and relationship building skills; ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with members, staff and volunteers.
Flexibility regarding schedule, including days, evenings and weekends.
Evidence of a clear Police Record Search (with Vulnerable Sector Check only if working with children), within the last six months

What does this role look like at the YMCA of Southeastern Alberta?
This position is responsible for providing direct service delivery for the YMCA of Southeastern Alberta’s Living Fit Program.
The responsibilities and duties of this role will include but is not limited to:
Customer Service
Monitoring and assisting Living Fit program participants in the weight room and cardio areas of our facility. Showing Living Fit members how to use the Living Fit equipment and demonstrate safe usage of cardio equipment and strength and conditioning machines.
Provide a strong presence on the strength and conditioning floor, engaging with and assisting members, answering questions, providing orientations and role modeling positive behaviors.
Assisting YMCA Senior members who wish to use Living Fit equipment with orientation to ensure safety, form and technique as it pertains to equipment usage.
Identify and create opportunities to enhance each and every person’s YMCA experience.
Assist Living Fit members to achieve their personal health and fitness related goals through education and suggested exercise programs, while building positive relationships
Provide support/assistance and/or direct delivery of programs for Living Fit members as required and the delivery of other programs as a substitute as required.
Plan, implement and deliver programming and adjust and make changes towards progression as necessary.

Teamwork
Working collaboratively with Personal Training staff to ensure that Living Fit program participants are provided with an initial assessment to determine program eligibility, creation of an initial workout program, and a progression plan that is monitored at 3 months, 6 months, 9 months, and annually from their start date Work in a team environment to achieve optimal collective results.
Develop and maintain smooth cooperative working relations with all staff and volunteers.
Participates on a staff team that is collaborative and supportive and works with colleagues to ensure excellence in the Living Fit program is achieved.
SAM Standards
Adheres to Priority SAM and Workplace Health & Safety standards, specifically focusing on the Conditioning and Free Weights area.
General cleaning as required around the facility.
Prepares and sets up program equipment/rooms and cleans and tidies up equipment/rooms after use, reporting any repairs to supervisor.
Cleans and maintains equipment during shifts and reports any repairs or work orders to supervisor.
Interpersonal/Communication Skills
· Submit any comments/complaints to the appropriate staff for follow-up.
· Be accessible and available to respond to concerns/issues as required.
· In collaboration with individual program members, program volunteers and YMCA program staff, assists and encourages program members to access additional appropriate programs offered at this location (i.e., Chair Fit, Whoga, GoldFit, AquaFit programming etc.)
· Participates regularly in educational seminars/workshops to increase knowledge pertaining to the fitness and health industry.
· Aids member special events and workshops/presentations as outlined by your supervisor.
· Provides direct delivery in the individual conditioning area with a focus on building and facilitating member relationships.
Quality of Work
Responsibility for ensuring all administrative tasks and/or documentation related to the Living Fit program are maintained accurately and professionally.
Participant records and statistics to be kept up to date and organized to ensure that program outcomes can be easily communicated.
Ensures outstanding programs and service are provided in a warm, friendly, clean and safe environment.
Ensures program outputs and outcomes are met with each client individually as well as with the program overall.
Other duties as assigned.
Compliance with Legislation and YMCA Policies and Procedures
Follow all YMCA policies and procedures.
Represents the YMCA and the Association in a professional manner.
Ensures appropriate policies and procedures are implemented and monitored to ensure safe and effective member and volunteer participation.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
Work in loud noisy environment
May be going from standing to seating positions, from standing to kneeling positions, from kneeling to standing positions, from seating to standing positions for most of the working day, there will be walking throughout the day.
Walking up and down stairs
May lift or move items up to 50 lbs.
Working on a computer screen, computer keyboard and mouse
May be exposed to children or adults who may not be vaccinated.
May be exposed to verbal/physical abuse from external and internal clients.
