Pay Grid: 17.00-19.80 plus wage top up

What qualifications are we looking for?

The successful candidate will have the following:
Education/Certifications/Credentials/Professional Registration
Post-secondary education in CYC, ECE, SLWK, Education or in a related field
Child Care certification Level 1, 2 or 3 required
Standard Child Care First Aid with CPR Level C
Minimum 2 years of work experience in a management role in an organization of similar size and complexity preferred
Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Search
Must have a valid driver’s license with a class 07 automobile insurance coverage business use (or pleasure with occasional business use) and a minimum of $2,000,000 in liability coverage
Child Intervention Check
Knowledge & Skills
Working with children in a childcare environment ages 5-12
Ability to fluently use the entire MS Office suite
Ability to act professionally in all situations, representing the YMCA according to its core values
Able to deal with difficult situations and complaints with confidence
Excellent customer services, organization, and time management skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to manage multiple staff at various sites throughout the community
Excellent interpersonal and Leadership skills
Self-motivated with the ability to direct personal performance to achieve desired results without constant direct supervision
Knowledge of Alberta Child Care Act and Regulations
What does this role look like at the YMCA of Southeastern Alberta?
This position is responsible for the day-to-day operations of one to two Before & After School Care program sites as well as being in ratio during operating hours. This position is also required to be in ratio for all PD days and all Licensed Camps. This position will also assist the Before and After School Site Supervisors in ensuring the success of all the Association’s Before and After School programs, situated at multiple sites throughout Medicine Hat and surrounding areas.
The responsibilities and duties of this role will include but is not limited to:
Customer Service:
Encourage opportunities for leadership within the Educator role
Help facility the Educator-level staff meetings that encourage relationship building with the Site Supervisors
Ensure Educators are provided with a thorough orientation to their position and work site(s)
Attend all YMCA staff meetings as required
Attend Parent Engagement Meetings, assist the Site Supervisor in the planning of the event

Teamwork:
Help Site Supervisors to schedule Educators for appropriate coverage for their vacation and/or leaves
Re-deployment to additional YMCA programs such as; child minding, camp programs, youth and preschool programs, events, etc.

Act as a Place to Connect Champion, ensuring the curriculum is effectively implemented in each assigned site
Attend all core trainings on curriculum
Complete assigned monthly checklists as indicated
Ensure Educators are completing weekly observations on play partnering, programming and classroom environment
Review and ensure Play in Action standards are met
Participate in annual YMCA Play in Action audit and achieve a minimum score of 85%
Ensure Educators attend core trainings, act as a mentor for Directors and Educators through role modelling curriculum standards at all times
Responsible for participation in annual YMCA Play in Action audit and achieving minimum score of 85% in assigned sites
Standards that Shine
Achieve all quality standards and targets established under YMCA best practices and the YMCA’s Standards that Shine
General cleaning as required around the facility
Ensuring all staff are aware of Standards that Shine, and work with them to create a culture of excellence in adherence to guidelines and expectations outlined by the Standards that Shine
Interpersonal/Communication Skills:
Ensure all assigned sites are correctly and consistently using the Avocado Engage app
Respond to emails and phone calls within a 24-hour period
Provide support to each Educator to ensure their success in the role and the success of the Program in each site
Performance management of all Educators with assistance from the Before and After School Site Supervisors, including annual evaluations and progressive coaching, if needed
Act as first point of contact for school administration regarding any questions, concerns, or issues about the site/program

Communicate effectively and professionally with all families, children, school staff, YMCA staff and the community
Quality of Work:
Ensure the Educators are including Healthy Child Development concepts in program planning
Ensure all Educators have received the Healthy Child Development training
Monthly reports and stats submitted to Before and After School Site Supervisors
Ensure all program forms and manuals are up-to-date and available at all locations
Seek out personal professional development opportunities
Ensure all invoices for the program are submitted to the Before and After School Site Supervisor on a timely basis
Complete NSF phone calls and follow ups
Ensure site training manuals are kept up to date
Ensure the monthly billing spreadsheet is up to date and submitted to the Site Supervisor monthly
Ensure all child/children’s paperwork is up to date in the Avocado System, ensure all payment information is up to date in the Avocado system
Compliance with Legislation and YMCA Policies and Procedures:
Ensuring that licensing regulations are always maintained in all assigned sites
Participate/supervise in licensing visits/annual reviews at all assigned sites, completing all necessary paperwork as required
Resolve areas of non-compliance in all assigned sites immediately
Report all critical incidents at assigned sites within immediately to Site Supervisors
Review all licensing standards on a quarterly basis to remain up to date on any changes and advise Before and After School Site Supervisors of any impact to the program
Keep Before and After School Site Supervisors apprised of all issues at assigned sites related to licensing
Review policies at all assigned sites on a monthly, rotating basis (includes all YMCA of Southeastern Alberta Policies & Procedures, including Child Protection and Health & Safety)
Ensure Licensing ratio’s are always maintained while on site
Work Environment and Physical Demands
Work in loud noisy environment
May be going from standing to seating positions, from standing to kneeling positions, from kneeling to standing positions, from seating to standing positions for most of the working day, there will be walking throughout the day
May lift or move items up to 50 lbs including children
May be exposed to all weather conditions while working outside
May be exposed to children or adults who may not be vaccinated
May be exposed to verbal/physical abuse from external and internal clients
