Position Title: Camp Leader
Reports To: Day Camp Leader Supervisor
Pay Grid: Level 1 - $19/hr
Department: Health, Fitness, & Aquatics
Hours: Full-Time Temporary: June 17 – August 28, 2026, 35-40hrs/week

What qualifications are we looking for?

The successful candidate will have the following:
Education/Certifications/Credentials/Professional Registration
• Standard First Aid, CPR-Level C
• Evidence of a clear Police Information Check (with Vulnerable Sector Search if applicable), within the last six months
• Must have a valid driver’s license with a class 07 automobile insurance coverage business use (or pleasure with occasional business use) and a minimum of $2,000,000 in liability coverage
Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) Grant Criteria
• Between 15 and 30 years (inclusive) at the start of employment
• Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (NOTE: International students are not eligible for the CSJ program)
• Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment
• Legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
Knowledge & Skills
• Comfort with and enthusiasm for outdoor and indoor activities, including water-based activities.
• Exceptional communication skills
• Works well in a team environment but can also be self-directed.
• Consistent and reliable

What does this role look like at the YMCA of Southeastern Alberta?
Reporting to the Day Camp Leader Supervisor the Day Camp Leader is responsible for: Planning and organizing a fun, interactive and educational camp experience for campers of all ages with role model appropriate leadership skills, and behavior. Providing mentorship and skill development to Leaders in Training. As well as developing friendships and providing mentorship to all campers and their families, while creating a caring, supportive environment where campers feel that they can take risks, make new friends, and try new things.
The responsibilities and duties of this role will include but is not limited to:
Customer Service
• Ensure program participants and family members receive prompt, courteous, and effective assistance whenever they have questions, concerns, or complaints about YMCA’s events and programs.
• Maintain a positive and professional attitude at all times.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with program participants and family members.
• Collaborating with other departments within YMCA to ensure customer satisfaction.

Work Environment and Physical Demands
• The Day Camp Leader will be required to work both indoors within YMCA facilities, as well as outdoors during field trips and outings.
• Within YMCA facilities there are stairs that will be required to climb from time to time.
• The physical requirements of the job are as follows:
• actively play with children.
• get involved in games.
• teach classes.
• While working outdoors or traveling, Day Camp Leaders will be open to evolving weather conditions and should be aware of them and plan accordingly.
