The YMCA Early Intervention Program for Young Mothers, “Young Moms” is a comprehensive, educational program designed to meet the diverse needs of pregnant or parenting teens. Young moms can complete their high school education through independent study while learning life management skills. The program is conveniently located within a YMCA daycare centre which provides an opportunity for children to receive on-site care while moms are attending school.

In partnership with the Medicine Hat Public School Division, students can continue their high school education with the support of a full-time, certified teacher. Students learn valuable life skills including parenting, child development and interpersonal skills.

The YMCA not only supports young families directly through the Early Intervention Program for Young Mothers but also provides participants access to the YMCA fitness facilities.  Young Moms can access the YMCA fitness centre, classes, and swimming lessons to support a healthy lifestyle for themselves and their families.

The student’s children can be cared for in a professional, nurturing environment close to their parents allowing contact during the school day. Financial support may be available for the program participants dependent on their circumstances.
