 High inactivity levels:

  • Only 62% of 3-4 - year-olds are achieving the recommended activity levels for their age group.
  • Only 35% of 5-17- year-olds are reaching their recommended physical activity levels as outlined in the Canadian 24-Hour Movement Guidelines for Children and Youth.

  • People who sit for most of the day are at risk of heart attack (about the same as smoking).

Too much screen time:

  • 51% of 5-17-year-olds and 76% of 3- 4-year-olds are engaging in more screen time than is recommended.

High rates of obesity:

  • Worldwide 39% of adults aged 18 years and over were overweight in 2016, and 13% were obese.
  • In 2016, more than 1.9 billion adults aged 18 years and older were overweight. Of these over 650 million adults were obese.
