The YMCA of Medicine Hat’s annual River Run has been a tradition in the community for more than 35 years, raising dollars to support the YMCA’s Strong Kids program. The YMCA had hoped to offer the event both in-person and virtually this year, however the current rise in COVID-19 case numbers and variants of concern has led the organization to make the decision to transition to an entirely virtual event. The health and safety of participants, employees, and volunteers is the YMCA’s highest priority.

Designated routes include 3 km, 5 km, 10 km, and 21.1 km half marathon options. In the virtual format, participants also have the option to choose their own routes. Prize medals will be awarded to the top male/female 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishers, while participation medals will be provided to all racers.

Registration is currently available, with early bird prices extended to May 31st: . The deadline to register is June 17th at 11:59 pm.

“The River Run is the YMCA’s biggest fundraiser in support of its Strong Kids program. It allows us to remove financial barriers to wellness by offsetting membership and day camp fees,” said Sharon Hayward, CEO. “As a result of the pandemic we expect the need for this program to be at an all-time high in our community. In addition to supporting a worthy cause, the virtual River Run is also a great way to keep fit, improve mental health, and spend quality time with family.”

The YMCA is always accepting donations to support its Strong Kids Program on its website.
