The YMCA of Medicine Hat has designed affordable 1-1 fitness options that fit within the Government of Alberta’s current public health restrictions. Recognizing that many people in the community are unable to afford the costs associated with 1-1 personal training, the YMCA is removing barriers by offering the community the following options at its Downtown branch:

1. Personal Training Sessions with a YMCA trainer - $35/hr. (30% off regular price)

  • Open to anyone 16+, YMCA membership not required
  • Designed for individuals who want structured and personalized training sessions to help them meet specific health and fitness goals
  • No limit on number of appointments (subject to trainer availability)
2. COVID Membership - $15/biweekly
  • Provides individuals 16+ and household cohorts access to 1-1 training in the YMCA’s new “Find Your Fit” program. This program utilizes an app-based platform to provide a variety of pre- designed fitness programs to meet members’ needs. YMCA trainers will provide 1-1 coaching at each appointment as members select and carry out the program of their choice.
  • New! COVID Membership includes 1-1 Y Swim appointments beginning on February 16th.
  • No limit on number of appointments (subject to trainer availability)
  • YMCA financial assistance is available – email downtown@medicinehatymca.ca for more information
  • Membership is only effective during COVID-19 mandated closure. Once the facility re-opens, members will have the choice to upgrade their membership and/or cancel.
3. Private Swimming Lessons - $25/session (30 minutes)
  • Open to anyone (all ages), YMCA membership not required
  • Designed for individuals/household cohorts who want structured and personalized aquatic sessions to help them meet specific health and fitness goals
  • No limit to number of appointments (subject to trainer availability)
“The YMCA recognizes that the current Government of Alberta public health restrictions exclude many people from participating in fitness related activities. We found a way to level the playing field for everyone in the community because physical activity is foundational for mental health.” said Sharon Hayward, CEO. “In the midst of the pandemic physical and mental health self-care is more important than ever.”
