Employment Services
We are growing again! YMCA Employment is proud to announce the commencement of 2 new programs at our Medicine Hat and Brooks locations: YouthWORKS! and Employment Ready/Job Placement.
YouthWORKS! (formerly Skills Link) assists youth between the ages of 15 to 30 who are experiencing barriers to finding and maintaining meaningful full-time work. Our program includes 6 weeks of paid in-class group training to get youth and young adults ready for the job they want. This includes effective communication skills, problem solving, goal setting, decision making, self-esteem, resume and cover letter development, interview skills, how to be a valuable employee, budget management, career exploration and development, healthy living, etc. Participants also complete First Aid and WHMIS courses. After in-class training, participants are placed in a 6-week paid work experience in their field of interest. Our first intake will be taking place in Brooks on January 25th with 7 participants.
Employment Ready Program and Job Placement provides career, employment, and job placement services that target the unique needs of each job seeker. To be eligible for the program individuals must be unemployed or underemployed (under 20 hours per week), Alberta residents, not attending an education program under the School Act (K-12), legally entitled to work in Canada, and ready, willing, and able to work the competitive labour market.
Anyone interested in finding out more about these programs should contact the YMCA Employment Centre in Medicine Hat at 403-529-4733 or in Brooks at 403-362-1483. Jodie Engbert, Manager of YMCA Employment Services can also be reached at jodie.engbert@medicinehatymca.ca .
