The Government of Alberta recently announced its Path Forward strategy that will allow the gradual re-opening of services using the number of hospitalizations as a benchmark. The Government has been clear that there will be a minimum of 3 weeks between each step. We are currently in Step 1 which goes into effect on February 8th. At that time, the YMCA will be permitted to offer 1-1 personal training session by appointment only, following strict COVID-19 health and safety protocols. Group Fitness Classes
Online group fitness classes continue to run. If you would like to access them please contact Jordon Sager, Fitness Manager at . We are pleased to provide this service free-of-charge to our valued members during the mandated closure

Personal Training & Living Fit
Effective February 8th, individual personal training appointments are available. To begin with, these appointments will occur at the Downtown YMCA. If demand is high, we will expand to the South Ridge branch in the future.
We are pleased to offer the community the following options:
1. Personal Training Sessions with a YMCA trainer - $35/hr for 1 person or $60/hr for 2 people (30% off regular price!)
  • Open to anyone 16 years-of-age or older, YMCA membership not required
  • Designed for individuals and/or couples who want structured and personalized training sessions to help them meet their specific health and fitness goals.
  • No limit on number of appointments (subject to trainer availability)
  • Appointments must be with YMCA trainers
2. COVID Membership - $15/biweekly per person
  • Provides access to 1-1 training in the YMCA’s new “Find Your Fit” program. This program utilizes the Hexfit platform to provide a variety of fitness programs to meet members’ needs. YMCA trainers will work individually with you to select and carry out the program of your choice.
  • No limit on number of appointments (subject to trainer availability)
  • Appointments must be with YMCA trainers
  • YMCA financial assistance is available for COVID memberships – email for more information
  • Membership is only effective during COVID-19 mandated closure. Once the facility re-opens, members will have the choice to upgrade their membership and/or cancel.
  • Open to household cohorts (cost remains $15 per person/biweekly)
  • Must be 16 years-of-age or older
  • Initially, training appointments will be available from 8:30 am to 2:15 pm until we better understand the level of demand in our community
  • Requests for appointments outside of those hours can be made and will be evaluated based on trainer availability

Access to the Facility for Appointments
Because our buildings are not open to the public, they will remain locked. Please arrive for your appointment 5 minutes early and your trainer will meet you at the door to let you in.

Change Rooms
Access to the general change rooms will be provided. Showers will not be available. Due to the current COVID-19 regulations, hot tubs and steam rooms are closed.

COVID-19 Protocols for Personal Training Appointments

  • Masks must be worn in the facility at all times, except while exercising
  • Use of hand sanitizer is required upon entry
  • A COVID symptom checklist/form must be completed each time a person enters the building
  • Individuals can only work with one trainer during each appointment.
  • Physical distancing must be maintained at all times within the facility
  • YMCA staff will regularly sanitize equipment and high-touch surfaces

YMCA Memberships
YMCA memberships remain on automatic hold. At this time, we are not accepting cancellation requests until our facilities are open to the public. Rest assured, no payments will be pulled while memberships are on automatic hold. Once a reopening date has been announced we will let our members know what the next steps are for membership reactivations, holds and/or cancellation.

Other Programs
The current Government of Alberta restrictions prevent us from opening our health/fitness/aquatics facilities to the public beyond individual personal training appointments. We expect to see these restrictions ease when we enter Step 2 of the Government of Alberta’s Path Forward strategy.
