COVID-19 Update - Effective 03/15/2020
The YMCA of Medicine Hat offers a broad range of programs and services, including Child Care, Employment Services, Day Camps, Health and Fitness programs, and the Early Intervention Program for Young Mothers.
Our charity is responding to COVID-19 across all these programs. The health of our staff, volunteers, participants, members and the broader community is our priority. We are following the advice of public health agencies and continue to pay close attention to their evolving updates.
Earlier today, The Government of Alberta declared all licensed child care facilities, out-of-school care programs and preschool programs be closed indefinitely. This means that the following YMCA of Medicine Hat child care programs will close effective 11:59 pm tonight (March15, 2020):
- John Millar Child Development Centre
- Crescent Heights Child Development Centre
- Dr. Roy Wilson Before & After School Care Program
- George Davison Before & After School Care Program
- Ross Glen Before & After School Care Program
- Southview Before & After School Care Program
- Crestwood Before & After School Care Program
- Herald Before & After School Care Program
- River Heights Before & After School Care Program
- Connaught Before & After School Care Program
- Vincent Massey Before & After School Care Program
- Webster Niblock Before & After School Care Program
- Dr. Ken Sauer Before & After School Care Program
Easter Break Licensed Child Care Camp scheduled for April 13 – 17 will also be cancelled.
For the time being, scheduled staff are expected to be at work and to continue to follow the preventative public health measures as recommended by Alberta Health Services.
This is an unprecedented circumstance and we appreciate your patience as we work hard to adapt to this change. We ask for your patience as we begin to process large numbers of payment adjustments. We will update our Y community as soon as we can and post updates regularly to our website and social media accounts.
We are taking the situation very seriously, and as it has evolved, we have decided to close both of our Health and Fitness centres and cancel all of our programs and services in these centres until further notice. This includes drop-in programs, registered programs such as swim classes, Teen Night and personal training. These closures and cancellations take effect as of 11:59 pm tonight (March 15, 2020).
This means the following YMCA Health & Fitness Centres are closed:
• Downtown YMCA
• South Ridge YMCA
We will be making arrangements to credit you for your membership and during this closure. Please be patient as we work through these details. We will be in touch with you again with the details of your payments in the coming days. We will also be providing ongoing updates on our re-opening date.
Employment Centres – Medicine Hat & Brooks
Centres remain open. We have increased disinfecting and cleaning of all common surfaces and are also increasing social distancing by using every second computer station and scheduling interviews and job counselling by telephone.
